Our History with KAI®

In the mid-1990s, we began importing KAI brand scissors from the renowned Kai Group in Japan. Founded in 1908 in Seki City, Japan, the Kai Group hails from a region with an illustrious 800-year history of blade forging, often referred to as the Blade Capital of the World. This rich legacy of blade craftsmanship imbues every Kai product, which has now expanded to encompass over 10,000 diverse kitchen, beauty, cooking, and sewing items.

At Wolff Industries, our mission is to bring KAI's exceptional products to the United States and share their high-quality craftsmanship with American consumers. While our primary focus remains on scissors and shears, our product line has evolved to include other KAI essentials as well. The green handle KAI® 5000 series is exclusive to Wolff Industries and a great example of our history with KAI Group in Japan.

What Is Ergonomix®?

KAI's green handle Ergonomix® shears stand out for their enhanced comfort, ease of cutting, prolonged sharpness, extended durability, and ability to minimize medical losses. The Ergonomix designation encompasses five specific criteria that shears must meet to be branded as such.

The 5 Criteria of Ergonomix®
Presently, a curated collection of shears from Wolff and KAI has earned the prestigious Ergonomix badge.

The 5 Criteria of Ergonomix®

Hardened Stainless Steel

Crafted from resilient stainless steel hardened to a Rockwell C rating of 58, Ergonomix shears boast a life expectancy that is two to four times longer than those of our competitors. This longevity not only ensures sustained performance but also substantially diminishes your replacement costs.

Proper Blade Tension

Ergonomix shears operate with reduced hand pressure, as we have precisely set the blade tension to achieve optimal cutting performance.

Mechanically Secured Pivots

Ergonomix shears have the pivot nuts mechanically locked in place with a nylon lock-nut to prevent loosening and falling off.

Honed and Tested

Ergonomix shears feature blades honed at a 35-degree angle, resulting in effortlessly smooth cutting and exceptionally durable edges. The honed edges not only facilitate a 40% reduction in hand pressure but also undergo meticulous hand testing to ensure the desired cut and feel. Every pair of shears must meet 100% of our stringent quality control standards.

Ergonomically Correct Handles

Ergonomix shears are equipped with handles that are ergonomically designed to naturally position the operator's hand. The soft, thermoplastic elastomer handles contribute to minimizing stress and tension on the hands. Additionally, these handles are chemically bonded to ensure they are food safe and resistant to breakage.

Selecting the ideal professional scissors for your task involves considering several key factors:

How to Choose the Right Scissors

Hand and Cutting Position
  • Will you be cutting at a table or chest height? Your hand position will influence the optimal scissor design.
Material

What type of material will you cut (hard, soft, rope)? This will determine blade thickness, length, and edge type (smooth or serrated).

Edge Type

Smooth edges provide clean cuts, while micro-serrations or notches enhance grip, especially for slippery or tough materials.

Length of Cut

Longer cuts typically require longer blades.

Example

If you are cutting a hard-to-cut piece of rope material, you’ll need a pair with shorter, thicker blades. The short blades help create more leverage, and the thicker blades help keep them from pushing apart in the cut.
